Huaso De Sauzal 2014 - April 2017 Decanter review

nose of cherries in liqueur and cocoa, ripe, floral, very expressive, turning more complex and fresher over time, developing more complexity and freshness as it sits in the glass. The palate is fresh with flavors of acid berries, very fine tannins and great acidity, much higher than your average País (it has a pH of 3.5 and 13.5% alcohol). Clean, focused and pure, opening up with time in the glass.

Fresh citrus flavours combine brilliantly with subtle toasty oak. This wine has pure, clean fruit, leaving a fresh finish. This wine shows surprising complexity for such a young wine. Should age gracefully

Deep and intense on the nose with perfumes of dried cherries and blueberries, with notes of spiced autumn fruit compote.  On the palate it is powerful but modern, with a lovely balance of ripe tannins and spiced, concentrated savoury cherry fruit character.  A touch of woodsmoke completes the long finish.

Foradori Fontanasanta 2015 - May 2017 Decanter review

Manzoni Bianco thrives on the clayey-calcareous hills above Trento, where its grapes ripen in late September. Born from the cross of Riesling and Pinot Bianco, this variety expresses the character of the Fontanasanta soil conditions. Its ability to evolve over time requires patience; Fontanasanta Manzoni Bianco is a wine that will begin to fully reveal itself after two or three years from vintage.

Elizabetta Foradori sharing her thoughts on the Biodynamic viticulture that is central to the philosphy at the Foradori Winery: "We haven’t abandoned the modern spirit of knowledge and research, but have attempted to bring Man and his spirituality back into Science, considering not only the materialistic aspects of Nature but devoting ourselves to a deep awareness of the vital processes".

Awarded 92 points and Highly Recommended status by Decanter (www.decanter.com) in their May 2017 edition review of Natural Wines (see blue link below).

The Story of Harry 2016 - May 2017 Decanter review

We have been on a mission to find out about Harry and his washing line but it would seem he is a man of mystery and has eluded us for the moment! We can however tell you about the delicious wine named after him.

Intellego Wines focus on making terroir driven wines from the Swartland with a very hands on approach in the winery and vineyards. The wines of Intellego are made using organic methods but do not  yet carry an official organic certification.  Jurgen Gouws, the winemaker at Intellego, has worked in many countries including Spain, France, New Zealand, Russia and South Africa.  Since January 2015 he has concentrated on producing and renting vineyards for his winemaking venture at Intellego in Swartland, South Africa.

The grapes for "The Story of Harry" Chenin Blanc are harvested manually and the grape must is then fermented by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels using only indigenous yeasts.  This gives the wine a soft, rounded and rich, almost buttery flavour.  The wine is then matured in old French oak for seven months before being bottled with no filtration or fining.

La Stoppa Malvasia Bianca Ageno 2011 (6x75cl)

Awarded 94 points and Highly Recommended status by Decanter (www.decanter.com) in their May 2017 edition review of Natural Wines (see blue link below).

La Stoppa Ageno 2011 - May 2017 Decanter review

This wine is a blend of Malvasia di Candia Aromatico and Trebbiano. It is an "orange" wine which is a white wine sector that is growing in popularity. it has a phenomenal nose of peach, spice and even tea. These aromas are also prevalent in the wine's flavour as well as showing a floral character.

£144.60

Occhipinti Siccagno Rosso 2013 (6x75cl)

Awarded 94 points and Highly Recommended status by Decanter (www.decanter.com) in their May 2017 edition review of Natural Wines (see blue link below).

Occhipinti Siccagno 2013 - May 2017 Decanter review

These are the thoughts of Arianna Occhipinti and they show her dedication to her vineyard and winemaking processes. "First of all, I believe in a respectful relationship with the land: a direct contact that turns into profound knowing. I think there is a balance, the one of nature, that has to be respected in every gesture: from cultivation and pruning - that has to be tidy, clean - to the processing of the fruit. Balance that can be summarized in the following words: from a good grape comes a good wine. Yes, in some ways my wine can be considered organic. I prefer to till the land by hand and I only use organically grown grapes, without the use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, chemical or synthetic fertilizers."

This is a red wine which has elegant, fruity flavours of plum, blackberry, blackcurrant and its warming spiciness draws you into the enjoyment of it. The grape skins have been allowed 40 days of contact with the wine giving it its rich colour and complexity of flavour. This wine is bottled without filtration so you can/should expect a sediment with this wine.
