Fifty Pound Gin takes its name from the Gin Act of 1736, when, in an attempt to curb the 'social evil' caused by the excessive and uncontrolled production and consumption of Gin, an annual levy of £50 was imposed on those wishing to produce and sell gin. Only two distilleries agreed to pay the tax!

Shortly after the Gin Act, a family of independent London Distillers created an original gin recipe, characterised by its particular smoothness and flavour - known ironically amongst themselves as 'Fifty Pounds' in honour of the Gin Act levy. The recipe remained hidden for generations until the descendants of those pioneers rescued it from oblivion.

Fifty Pounds Gin is colourless in appearance “water white”, if you will – with spirit tails on the side of the glass.

On the nose, it’s classic in character, with a predominant bouquet of juniper and coriander, balanced by its citrus and spice notes.

On the palate Fifty Pounds Gin is smooth but complex, opening with juniper, but followed by the citrus constituents, and a hint of spice and earthiness. This gives way to a long, fresh finish, that’s clean, dry and with a touch of heat.

The resulting gin has an alcohol content of 43.5%, making it perfect for drinking in a dry martini or mixed with tonic.
