The picturesque Kilchoman Distillery sits nestled amongst the traditional buildings of Rockside Farm on the north-west coast of Islay. As famous as Islay’s Farm Distillery, their barley fields stretch west, sheltered beneath the Cnoc Dubh cliffs, to the shores of Machir Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Named after the most spectacular beach on Islay, Machir Bay is the flagship of the Kilchoman range. It has a vatting of approximately 80% bourbon barrels and 20% oloroso sherry casks.
The aromas are of lemon zest, vanilla and a distinct coastal influence give way to floral intensity, juicy peaches, pears, and wafts of rich spices. On the palate there are bursts of tropical fruit and dried sultanas, warming smoke and waves of honey, malt, butterscotch and rich sweetness. The finish is of sherry-soaked fruit, cracked black pepper and sea salt. Long-lasting with layers of citrus sweetness and maritime peat smoke.
