A special bottling from Loch Lomond, named after Royal Portrush Golf Club and released as part of the distillery’s The Open Course Collection. Loch Lomond has claimed the title of the official whisky of The Open, and created this bottling series in collaboration with 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke. The 19 year old single malt was left to mature in American oak casks and enjoyed a finishing period in claret wood casks. Non chill filtered and bottled at 50.3% ABV.
A real sweet start with loads of fruits on the nose. Just think peaches, apricots, plum rich vanilla, toffee, caramel and a cream soda aroma lurking within. Very inviting.
Palate - the spices are dominant at first with ginger and a touch of pepper giving some heat before the fruits gently glide in and calm things down, berries, candied orange and dusty peaches are evident before the caramel, toffee and subtle hints of dried fruits balance it all out.
Deliciously long finish.
