In 1918, a young Japanese man with an ambition to make genuine whisky went alone to Scotland to unveil the secret of whisky making. He was Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky.  In 1923 he joined Kotobukiya (currently Suntory) and helped to establish a distillery before starting Nikka in 1934. Two distilleries, Miyagikyo and Yoichi, produce the whiskies that make up this lovely blended whisky.

Nikka From The Barrel whisky was created to deliver full flavours and richness of whisky “from barrels” which only blenders can sniff and taste. Matured malt and grain whiskies from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries are blended and re-casked.  The blended liquid goes into used barrels for another few months for “marriage” before it is bottled.

The iconic bottle is designed to reflect “a small block of whisky” – embodying the rich, strong taste of the whisky within.

This whisky possesses a distinctive personality characterized by solidity, depth of taste and a richly expanding aroma.  Fruity and flavoursome on the nose, following with layers of coconut, buttered toast, orchard fruits and spring flowers, finishing off with a hint of smoke and the seaside.
