Founded in 2005 by the Wemyss family (pronounced Weems), the company specialises in vatting together the finest malt whiskies from different distilleries, so producing a blended malt - not a blend, as it contains only malt whiskies and no grain.
Spice King is one of the three core blended malts in the Wemyss Malts portfolio alongside Peat Chimney and The Hive – the names of which represent each brand’s flavour profile.
As Spice King’s name suggests, the Highland-style blended malt is all about warming spicy flavours derived from 16 different distillery characters. The current make up comprises a west coast Island malt blended with other Highland, Lowland, Speyside and Islay malts, the latter of which imparts a slightly salty and smoky finish.
Peppery, fruity and malty nose with notes of cinnamon, orange zest and hints of coconut.
Spicy on the mouth with nutmeg, black pepper, toasted barley and lightly charred oak.
Rich and intense finish with coconut oil and malt on the tail.
